Kuang Si Falls, Luang Prabang

If you're going to search for things to do in Luang Prabang, then I'll tell you, every page you will see will most certainly suggest going to see Kuang Si Falls found on the South part of the province and is 29km away from the town center.

It might be far but I swear, it is worth it. At least for me and to most of the travelers I see online. What I am not sure though if this place is man-made or natural, if it is indeed natural, then wow! Its stairs like structure are very picturesque. Very Southeast Asian, if I must say. :)

After our half day city and temple tour around Luang Prabang, we hired a shared van going the falls. I think we paid 40,000kip per head roundtrip. Well, the price is already okay since it was really far and I had an opportunity to sleep during travel. Other's opt to hire tuktuks but with the hot weather outside and the shaky movements of the tuktuk, I don't think it'll be a comfortable 29km ride.

There are many stalls and restaurants around so you won't really get hungry. Entrance to the whole park is 20000kip per head which includes the falls and the bear sanctuary. The bears are sooo cute and very furryyyyy~. I was able to witness on how they open a coconut fruits with extreme power. Just imagine how strong these furry creatures can be!

After some time with the bears. We then walked the path of the whole Kuang Si Falls, It's like rice terraces only that it is falls. The main falls are found on the top most part. People here enjoy the cool water. And yep, people are allowed to swim in some areas. We didn't actually swim but it was nice seeing people enjoy. I'm already contented taking photos and soaking my hands and feet in the water.

Since Laos is landlocked  by its neighboring countries, there might not be beaches around but this falls surely makes it up for it. People here, locals and tourists, enjoy the different scenery apart from the usual temples.

Some barbequed stuff we ate for merienda :D

If you're going to Luang Prabang, then this is a must!

We had a call time on what time we should go back to the van. So we went back a little earlier and had merienda in one of the stalls. This is actually where I almost lost my passport! lol. (Read:this post) Thank heavens I didn't have to go through so much hassle of fixing documents if I probably really lost it. I'm very much thankful to the Lao woman who gave it back. :D

So that's how we spend our afternoon in Luang Prabang. After that, we already went to Phousi Hill and catch the sunset.

  5. Beautiful place to visit. This is something that interests me rather than the beach. I would love to see the bear sanctuary. I would definitely include this in our destination lists.

  6. What an incredibly beautiful place. I think it certainly was worth the visit. It's great that they rescue bears and give them a safe place to live. If it is natural and not man made that's incredible

  7. What a beautiful day out! The falls is spectacular and I love that it is not that powerful and that you can swim in the pools underneath it, or, as you called them, water "rice terraces". The water looks so clear as well, I love the color. Having a freshly cooked bbq meal afterwards definitely makes the day perfect.

  12. Wow, that is a majestic falls. Been to a lot of falls inside the country but nothing looks as wonderful as that. It was uniquely made by nature. I hope the locals will preserve its beauty for the next generation.
