It was indeed a memorable one as I've experienced a lot of first times. I was even adopted for the night by my father's friend that's living in Roxas. The locals are indeed very nice. Most of the tourist that I encounter going there is from Bacolod and Iloilo. I seldom see Manileno's come there so I assume this is not yet as popular as other tourist destinations for the Manila locals. And actually, I want it to stay that way to prevent it from being so busy that it might be hard to maintain after some time.\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n Isla de Gigantes or sometimes called \u003Cb\u003EGigantes Island\u003C\/b\u003E is composed of mainly two islands which are Gigantes Norte, where most of the resorts are located, and Gigantes Sur where most of the Gigantes locals stay. We stayed at Gigantes Sur and it is one of the longest night of my life. Lol!\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n There are two ways to go to Isla de Gigantes when you're coming from Manila. It's either you take the Roxas route, which is the best way because it is nearer to Bancal port, or take the Iloilo route wherein it will take longer as you will take Estancia Port that is 4 hrs aways from Iloilo center. They brought me to the port and even bought 2 liters of water that I can bring with me. If I just have my own drone then this will be the perfect spot for it. The water is sooooo blue and the sandbar is a very long stretch that has a view of two different rock formations. This is where we also ate our lunch. We had fish, scallops, crabs, oysters, rice.. and everything is unlimited! I only had one problem though.. I had mumps that time so it was hard chewing the food.. If I didn't have it back then, I would have probably stuffed myself to death. Seafood is love. I don't know how true this is but the island is just small. I think none from our group went down to experience it. You can snorkel, rent a banana boat or rent a jet ski. Most people have mistaken this place as Isla de Gigantes. But no, it's actually called Cabugao Gamay and the Isla de Gigantes we're referring to is not even a tourist destination. It's just the place where resorts place accommodations for all these island hopping stuff.\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n It was indeed a tiring day but it doesn't end there! Once we're done taking photos at Cabugao Gamay, we went straight to Gigantes Sur because this is where our accommodation is located. The accommodation we had is like a \u003Ci\u003Ebahay kubo\u003C\/i\u003E type wherein if you will ask is okay with me.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n What I didn't like though is that it didn't have any blankets! And that I only figured it out when everybody was asleep so there was no one I could ask. I am the type of person who can't sleep without a blanket. This is like the longest night ever as I couldn't sleep. No blankets, and since it's a \u003Ci\u003Ebahay kubo\u003C\/i\u003E type, the temperature outside can easily be felt inside. And it was soooo freaking cold! I can also hear the curtains slamming the thin wood facade of the \u003Ci\u003Ebahay kubo\u003C\/i\u003E. Super scary! I remember finishing all the songs in my playlist and I haven't had a deep sleep yet. Glad I survived!\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n But of course, before we retire for the night, there's a mini socials. Our dinner was calamari and again, scallops. There's also a karaoke machine but it sounds kinda rusty already. Lol! I was one of the few who woke up very early. The others who are left had the chance to visit \u003Cb\u003EPawikan Cave\u003C\/b\u003E. Huhu! But it's better than missing my flight.. so yeah.. okay. We arrived at Estancia at around 10 AM then from there, I had to take a van going to Tagbak Terminal in Iloilo. Travel time? 4 hours. That's why it's advisable to take Roxas whenever you're going to Isla de Gigantes because it is much nearer.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n I was able to get some sleep during the ride to Tagbak terminal. I arrived at Tagbak at around 2 PM then I went straight to SM Iloilo because that's where the van to the airport is. I roam around the mall first and bought some bread to eat that will also serve as my lunch. My flight to Manila was a bit delayed though but I arrived safely. There's just so many things I learned and I discover. Not just from the surroundings but also to myself. I learned that I am not a good traveler yet because I still can't sleep without any blankets. Contrary to popular belief, Guimaras is not only famous for its sweet world class mangoes, some of us don't know this but this amazing province also has amazing beaches to offer! And I only knew it prior to planning this trip. If you don't know yet, we had a 4 day trip to Bacolod, Iloilo, and Guimaras. Guimaras being our 3rd stop before we go back to Bacolod for our flight back to Manila.\u003Ca name='more'\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n To us Filipinos, we probably know Guimaras as our top exporter of mangoes because of its sweet and pure taste. And while that is something to be proud of, what I can attest to is that this island province should also be famous for its beaches. Before anything else, let's have an expectation setting. Yes. Guimaras has amazing beaches to offer but to make you guys imagine, there's almost few to no nightlife in the beachfront establishments. Travel time is just 15 minutes and the jump off is Ortiz Wharf where the boat departs every 15 minutes starting from 5:30 AM to 7:30 PM daily. I guess this is really the main transportation of the locals going to and fro Iloilo and Guimaras.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n I also saw students using this mode of transportation. I'm just not used to seeing this stuff because I'm so fond to land travels in Manila. Jeeps, LRT, buses, you name it. Fare cost is P14. Yup, that cheap. We can assume that Guimaras is just really near to Iloilo.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n Weather is very cooperative, sunny and cloudy but a little bit gloomy in the morning. Upon arriving in Guimaras, we managed to rent a multi cab good for the 6 of us\u0026nbsp;\u003Cspan style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003Ethat will transport us to our booked hotel room. But nah, we managed to push through the island hopping the same day as our land tour around Guimaras. Win win! The only thing we will only do the next day is to prepare ourselves for a long travel time to Bacolod and then Manila.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003Cspan style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n We stayed at \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1762335\u0026amp;pcs=1\u0026amp;hid=567936\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ERaymen Beach Resort\u003C\/a\u003E because this is the jump off of the island hopping and Alubihod beach is just a 3-minute walk away. So this is where the fun starts! We settled down in our room and changed to our island hopping attire. Since we were told that we can do both island hopping and city tour at the same day, we then started the adventure with island hopping! The Igang Marine Station of SEAFDEC (Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center). To tell you the truth, I am not expecting a lot about Guimaras. I mean it could just be like any other beach. We can have island hopping but are the islands and the beaches really worth it? That's what I thought at first. But while we're approaching SEAFDEC, right there and then, there is something really worth visiting. We stumble across a large group of people when we dock so the guide took us all in one group and started educating us about the place and their mission.\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n SEAFDEC is the breeding ground of different fishes. There are a lot of species to be seen but what I liked the most was the turtles! I may be in my early twenties but it was actually my first time to see a large turtle swimming around! It's as if I was on a field trip. This is where the guide said we can have snorkeling. My friends snorkeled while I enjoyed the beach and the water. I'm not expecting to see a big ecosystem down below so I just took photos and swam. And also, after being stung by something while we're snorkeling in Coron, it's hard for me to have an encounter with fishes without proper gears.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n \u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n I just learned how important water shoes are! I don't know if they saw something but the surroundings of the beach are rocky. We didn't really go inside but it was just interesting because it's in the middle of the ocean. I found in some blogs that I should try baye-baye when I'm in Roxas. It's like a pinipinig delicacy. You see, this trip is all sorts of excitement and being scared. Scared of what lies ahead and scared of not knowing anyone along the way. But that's the very core and very reason why we travel alone at least once. To see how far can we make it, and have all sorts of misadventures that's one for the books.\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nI booked this flight last April 2016.\u003Cb\u003E ~*Piso Fair!*~ \u003C\/b\u003EActually, I didn't know where to go back then. It just sounds like Iloilo is a good place for solo travellers, and for first time solo travellers. So I booked it.. roughly P650 roundtrip (around $13). I was ecstatic that time because finally I can try solo travelling! Yay! But turns out this trip almost didn't push through because of some external forces we can't really control. But in the end, all's well that ends well. I decided right then and there that that's the place I want to visit! But months before, I found out it's not possible because my flight to Iloilo is around 1PM and the boat that leaves in the port for Isla de Gigantes is at 2PM. Schedule can't really permit it. I can still continue to explore Iloilo city but we just went there last January (just in time for \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.maayalegaspi.com\/2017\/02\/iloilo-dinagyang-2017.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EDinagyang\u003C\/a\u003E). And 3 days in Iloilo alone? I don't think it's a good idea. So instead of thinking of other stuff to do, I decided that I'll just miss my flight because first, it only costs P650 - no harm in missing it. Second, I'll just use my vacation leave credits for much anticipated vacations and travels.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/center\u003E\n\u003Ccenter style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nBut while I was on the edge of giving up, Cebu Pacific miraculously sent a schedule change email which entitles me to \u003Cb\u003Erebook\u003C\/b\u003E my flight on my preferred date, and on nearby ariports for free! Like spell lucky!!! The stars aligned and just like that, I was able to rebook my flight on my most convenient time. I decided that I'll rebook my Iloilo flight to Roxas City because I read that Roxas city is nearer in Bancal port in Carles Iloilo instead of the Iloilo proper. Going back to Manila, I still took the Iloilo airport. I already got a tour package on my Isla de Gigantes tour. Everything was all set! Got my swimsuit ready. The only thing missing is a tripod because I am travelling solo and therefore, it's a hassle to always ask people to take my pictures. I am already losing hope. I'm pretty much sure that even if I decided to go, the cabin crews might not let me go inside the aircraft because mumps is highly contagious. But me being persistent, I still packed my stuff and got ready for the flight. Like nothing's ever gonna stop me from this travel. Packed my meds, all the beach essentials, and on the day of my flight.. surprisingly, my face started to go back to normal! Though it's still swelling, at least it wasn't that scary big. I successfullly landed at Roxas Airport. It was still early in the morning and the clouds are quite dark. Thankfully, it didn't rain during my stay there. IF you will ask me, this solo travel is an eye opener. I've experienced a lot. Sleeping with the locals, touring solo, and I've even had the longest scariest night of my life.
