Well, for one, my Southeast Asia bucket which I also completed last 2018, and 2 mores reasons are because of the hot air balloons in Bagan and the stories my father told me when he worked for a time in Thailand and Myanmar’s border in \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.maayalegaspi.com\/2016\/02\/thailand-2015-mae-sot.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EMae Sot\u003C\/a\u003E and Myawaddy. Breakfast was supposed to be buffet type but it seems that it’s offseason so instead of preparing buffet breakfast, guests are asked to choose from a menu of breakfast they’re currently offering. Me, being the noodles lover chose stir-fried noodles, or also known as pancit here in PH. haha.\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nWe only have a map of the old Bagan, rented an e-bike and went on our way. BTW, Myanmar is one of the most conservative countries you’ll ever encounter so wearing skimpy clothes is a no-no. Proper attire should be observed when going inside temples. Also, what’s a trip to a foreign land when you won’t at least try wearing their clothing right? So yep, that’s what I did! When I and my father were in \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.maayalegaspi.com\/2019\/06\/myanmar-yangon-downtown-sule-and.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EYangon\u003C\/a\u003E with his former student Lin Ko, we went to a public market that sells longyi. It’s a sheet of cloth that’s 2 meters in width and is worn from waist to toe. It’s being tied to the waist and there are many variations. My sister once used this as her national costume during the united nations event at her school. Well, I’ve seen a lot of temples in my SEA backpacking but this one is really pretty. Include the birds that are flying around. If you will google on where to catch the best sunset in Bagan, there are many recommendations that would pop out. We didn’t really followed any of those and just decided to look for a temple that has a terrace where we can see the Thousand temples of Bagan. Finally some good food because our dinner the night prior to this day was in a small restaurant that sells different kinds of curry. I’ve been having a hard time eating in Myanmar because while I am not a picky eater, I didn’t expect Myanmar’s food to be hmm.. not my type? Also, I have trust issues in terms of how well they prepare the food. When the food was served to us, the food was not warm, the smell was not appetizing, at least to me. So I only ate the hard-boiled egg that was included. The rest was eaten by my father. That dinner was probably the least appetizing meal I had in Myanmar. I enjoyed every bit of our stay here except maybe for the food. That’s it for Bagan. The next day, we were picked up by a tuktuk and we were dropped off to the terminal where we rode a mini bus going to Mandalay. The mini bus was a whole lot of new experience! I’ve been into many overnight buses across Southeast Asia but this one is cool too. Because since it’s during the daytime that we’re traveling, I can see the houses and locals on the streets and how they live their life. I like observing people. People chewing betel nuts, selling nuts and other local delicacies. I mean if you know the hot air balloon situation in Capadoccia then Bagan is almost the same. The only difference I guess is that in Bagan, it's over the beautiful temples with the amazing sunrise. \u0026lt;3\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nIf Yangon has their Shwedagon Temple, then Bagan have their thousands of temples to choose from! It was said to have more than 4000 temples with 2000+ of it still standing up to this day. Bagan used to be the capital of the Pagan Kingdom which is the current Myanmar we know now. Just like other Indochina countries, Myanmar or as previously known as Burma has a long history which I will not bore you to death because yeah... This is like the end chapter, or like the bosses of the boss in an arcade game. This reminds me of the time I and father slept in Suvarnabhumi airport in \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.maayalegaspi.com\/search\/label\/Thailand\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EThailand\u003C\/a\u003E to save hotel costs. Little did I know sleeping at airports is just level 1. We just paid him when we arrived in Yangon so that we already have a sure ticket to Bagan. The overnight bus is just like the one in Thailand so yep, it's a good one. I cannot remember if it has its own CR but either way, I won't dare use it unless I cannot really hold it off anymore. LOL. We rode a tuk-tuk going to \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/yun-myo-thu-hotel\/hotel\/bagan-mm.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EYun Myo Thu\u003C\/a\u003E in New Bagan. I usually observe this \"new\" and \"old\" stuff in Indochina countries. There is always a wall to everything. I mean we have Intramuros, Thailand have Chiang Mai's \"old city\", as wells as Ayutthaya, Vietnam has their \"old quarter\" in Hanoi. It just goes to show that there were many uninvited people coming to these places that these places requires walls to isolate itself. It's just my observation though.\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nAnyway, as I've said, the hotel is located in New Bagan... Which is definitely not the main area of attraction because of course, it's the old we want to see. Old Bagan though is just a few kilometers away from New Bagan and there are many hotels, tourist centers that offer bike, and motorbikes to tourists. There are also cars for rent if you're that type of traveler. The room is so-so. I liked that the CR is clean and well maintained though the TV doesn't offer many channels. Our first stop was a nearby restaurant for brunch. The server told us it wasn't their peak season so the tourist isn't that many.. Which I think is good because it won't get crowded as much as when it's peak season. To be honest, this is one of the decent meals I've had here in Myanmar. There are days I only eat biscuits because I'm not so sure about the food. There are more than 2000+ temples here in Bagan so I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure you cannot really visit each one of it plus you'll get tired seeing temples. I, myself, got overwhelmed with temples. LOL. It is literally \u003Cb\u003Ee v e r y w h e r e!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/b\u003E So the game plan, of course, is to visit those worthy of our time and effort. Remember we are using bikes so it can get sweaty and hot and tiring all at once. During our visit, it is 25,000 kyat (pronounced as Chat) for Bagan Archaeological Zone which is the entirety of Old Bagan. I just don't know how much it is now. Also, I heard they are transitioning to e-ticket? So our first stop of the day? \u003Cb\u003EAnanda Temple.\u003C\/b\u003E Actually, for me, this one stands out well compared to the other temples because of its color. The usual color of temples here are either gold or are made of bricks, so brown to magenta, something like that, but this temple is squeaky white!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nI am not sure about the architecture of temples or what does it needs to have but what I noticed is that each side has one buddha. So when you enter a temple, you can roam around and see that each side have a giant buddha. Also, if you are not yet aware, you will need to take off your foot ware at the entrance, not outside the temple. It wasn't in season when we went to Myanmar!!!! GRRRRR. I mean that's the reason I wanted to go to Myanmar then you'll tell me it's not in season? That's what happens when you book flights first before researching. lol. It was the rainy season when we went to Myanmar yeah. Kinda sad.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nSo, don't make the same mistakes I did. If you really want to see the iconic hot air balloon in Myanmar, take note that the season for it is \u003Cb\u003EOctober to mid-April. \u003C\/b\u003EMaybe in the future, I'll have the chance to go back, who knows, right?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI would say with or without the hot air balloons, go visit Myanmar. It is not yet a very popular destination so this is the best time.
