The Ruins, Negros Occidental

Finally! This is the last post on our Bacolod-Iloilo-Guimaras tour last January. Yes, you read that right, last January and I am only blogging it now. Haha! I'm trying to catch up on my backlogs one by one but it just keeps on coming! Loool. But anyway, I am not really complaining, keep the new adventures coming. 😉

Our activity on our last day was to see the stunning The Ruins. I am always seeing this beauty every time my friends post their Bacolod trips and oh my gosh, if it is already this beautiful in the pictures, what more in real life?

The Ruins is a beautiful testament to love as this house or should I say mansion is created to honor Don Mariano's love for his wife, Maria Braga. It's a long old love story wherein Don Mariano met Maria Braga on the streets of Hong Kong. And as their love grow for each other, they also grew their family and had a big family of 10 kids.

Maria's pregnancy on their 11th child is the tragic end to the Maria's life and their supposed to be 11th child as Maria slipped in their bathroom and wasn't attended by a physician right away.

Being lonely and heart broken, Don Mariano built this mansion and their kids lived in the place for as long as they are not yet married. After some time, the place was burnt to prevent the Japanese from using it as a headquarters. And now, only this beautiful ruins is left for that passionate love.

Actually, before we were able to see The Ruins, we had a veryyyy long day of traveling from Guimaras to Bacolod. Had I known that we'll be touring different provinces, I should have chosen Iloilo international airport as our return airport to Manila. From Guimaras, we rode a boat going back to Iloilo then we had to take a ferry back to Bacolod. And guess what?? The ferry was late so our trip was also delayed and the ocean is more wavy than usual which makes the ferry move slower.

We also plan on going to Campuestohan that afternoon but since we had many delays, our time cannot permit it anymore. So instead, we just marvel the beauty at The Ruins.

The Ruins is situated at Talisay, another city under Negros Occidental. People who visits Bacolod often mistaken The Ruins as part of Bacolod. But no, It is in Talisay.

The Ruins is picture perfect everywhere. That even if you don't have any skills in taking photos, it will come out as instagram worthy. How's that? Just look at our vivid and crisp photos! <3

Going inside, there are not much furniture. The 2nd floor is closed for viewing probably because of safety reasons. Nonetheless, the facade alone is beautiful. You can have your photoshoot on point here.

I think this place is also beautiful at night with all the lights to light up its beauty. If you love architecture, then this one will surely tickle your inner architect.

It was one amazing getaway. 4 days gone so fast! There's just too many firsts in this trip. First time to travel with my high school friends, first time to visit these beautiful places, first time to experience Dinagyang. It was indeed a fun travel. 🙂

  1. The Ruins is such an interesting destination with its history and stunning presence even on its ruined state. I'm awed how it become a tourist spot and how well maintained it is. Your photos are lovely and your tour seems fun! Hands down how picturesque this place really is.

  2. I've been here twice and it is really stunning. I like how this Mansion being made because of a great love. It is Love that gives us the idea of pushing ourselves beyond our limits. This is also resemblance to the well known Taj Mahal in India, but this one, the Mansion has an intricate design which I find it attractive and really beautiful. The facade has a great view with all those green grass and just super clean. Thank you so much for sharping this with us.

  6. We gave us a truly wonderful picture of the Ruins. Been to Talisay once and wasnt able to visit that place. Perhaps that time, I was more into doing business and not including leisure in any of my travels. I wonder why it's called as such when I cant even see any ruined part of it from the pictures.

  7. I had been to Iloilo several times because of my work before. I've been to Guimaras also. But I have not been to Bacolod. Maybe soon I would visit this province with my family. I'd love to see The Ruins, too.

  9. The mansion has both a beautiful and tragic story. Too bad it has to be burned down so it won't be occupied. But then again, if it didn't happen, I think it will be off limits to public as a private property. I hope I get to visit this in the future with my love one.

  10. I never knew the story behind the Ruins, so thanks for sharing it here. It parallels the story of the Taj Mahal, in a way. I hope to visit Bacolod soon, to see this famous landmark for myself AND for the food, which I hear is great, too.
